Then SCPH-9xxxx dropped the PS1 CPU and bumped up the clock speed of the main EE CPU to compensate for the regular tasks that the PS1 CPU did outside of PS1 game compatibility, and introduced full emulation for PS1 games (when only graphics were emulated previously).įrom Slims, I have 77xxx (which doesn't read discs) and 90xxx, and a PAL copy of Year Of The Dragon. I think the late 7xxxx models combined EE and GS to one chip, which affected compatibility, but still had the PS1 CPU integrated, which still maintained similar degree of PS1 game compatibility as older systems with just some hiccups. PS2 Slims past SCPH-7500x have a lessened backwards compatibility, meaning SCPH-77xxx, 79xxx and 90xxx, but Im not sure if all 3 of these have compatibility issues to the same degree.
